FTA

File Transfer Anything

Move a file to your other computer, share a quick note, or send a link without a cloud relay. FTA brings local transfers to a small desktop app, a Linux command line and MCP-compatible AI clients.

What you can do

Drop, send, receive

Drag files onto a computer in the desktop app, or send text and URLs. Received files go to your chosen folder without overwriting existing files with the same name.

Register once

The receiving computer approves the first registration. After that, registered devices can receive transfers while they are online on your local network.

Fit your workflow

Use the macOS menu bar, the Windows tray, or a Linux CLI. MCP clients can send to registered online devices, with file access limited to folders you explicitly allow.

Get started

  1. Install FTA on both computers, or build the engine and CLI for Linux.
  2. Choose a device name and receive folder, configure your trusted local network, then restart the service to apply the settings.
  3. Enable discovery, select a computer and send. Approve registration on the receiving device the first time.

Current scope

Transfers require reachable, online devices on the same local network. Internet relay, remote folder browsing and offline delivery are outside the current scope. Check the setup guide for platform-specific behavior and the current implementation scope.
